Cyprus out for 2010

jesc 2008 cyprus 2010 elena charis4th May 2010

Terrible news, worse than my mounting pile of neglected schoolwork! Cyprus has dropped out of Junior Eurovision. That is another original country down, only Malta, The Netherlands, Belgium, Belarus, Macedonia, Romania and potentially Sweden (although they skipped 2008). The news was confirmed to esckaz by the Cypriot delegation today.

Moldova will not be entering in 2010 due to high participation costs, they did want to enter.

12 April 2010

Belarus has selected their national finalists for 2010, and as the host country we can be assured it will be a good entry! It works like that, honestly!

This top 11 were selected out of 55 entries (which isn’t very many considering JESC is big in Belarus and the Netherlands gets thousands, but perhaps in Belarus you need to be more professional)

1. Evelina Lashuk (23/ 09/2000) – Grandpa’s Hit – Minsk

No Diana Gromova, or Zlata, or Polina. Upsetting.. In good news, a lot of Russian speaking news outlets have been reporting just on the list of finalists!

Junior Eurosong 2010

3rd February 2010

ketnet pop ketnetpop

Registrations are open for Junior Eurosong 2010! Belgium is looking for talented singers aged between 10 and 15 to audition. The kids don’t even need to write their own song, they can send in a cover of another song, and professionals will help them write a song for JESC. If you want to register, you must do so before March 1st (@6pm)! You must be born between 23rd November 1995 and 22nd November 2000 (I can’t believe we’ve finally reached the kids born in the 2000’s! How time has passed..). If you have a question, email junioreurosong@ketnet.be and enter at www.ketnet.be/junioreurosong.

This year Junior Eurosong will move from Eén to partner kids channel Ketnet. All Junior Eurosong shows will be broadcast on Ketnet, but Eén will still air the final held in Belarus, as in Flanders Junior Eurovision rates quite well, and CD sales are high. As Ketnet already features past JESC contestants and national finalists on ‘Ketnetpop’, it makes sense to move the whole show to that channel, which will be able to dedicate more specialised coverage to Junior Eurosong 2010. The International junior contest Eurovision 2010 will be held in Minsk. The official statement was made by the European Broadcasting Union on June 8. The show will take place in Minsk on November 20, 2010. Junior Eurovision 2010 will be broadcasted by Belteleradiocompany.

Many countries pretended to host the contest. After the first hearings of the EBU Supervisory Council in February 3 potential candidates (Belarus, Malta and Russia) were chosen.

The candidates demonstrated their presentation at the following meeting of the EBU Supervisory Council in Kiev on June 5. Taking into account the success of adult Eurovision-2009, Russia was considered to be the favorite. Yet, the ideas presented by Belteleradiocompany at the presentation, were so convincing that Belarus was selected to host Junior Eurovision 2010. The show will take place in Minsk Arena.

Among the advantages of the Belarusian application was that all moments of foreign guests’ staying in Minsk were specified and described. The recreational program for young performers is already fixed. Thee will attend a circus show, meet the Belarusian Father Frost. The jury also pointed to the unique design of the scene, big capacity of the arena (about 15,000 viewers) and slogan of the contest (“Feel the magic”). The children will be able to plunge into the atmosphere of fairy tale a month before Christmas. Banners with pictures of the participants will be exhibited on the main drag of the Belarusian citizens and towns and their videos will be demonstrated on the screens of Belteleradiocompany in Minsk so that the artists felt themselves true stars. A performer, who will give a master-class for junior singers, will be chosen soon. Among the candidates are Jennifer Lopez, Justin Timberlake and other stars.

The executive producer of Eurovision Svante Stokselius charged Belteleradiocompany with forming a crew and choosing the executive producer of the contest. Experienced companies that have already served other Eurovision contests will be invited to Minsk for shooting, installing the illumination and other technical aspects of the contest. Belteleradiocompany has already received applications from potential sponsors. Their aid will allow inviting a record high number of participants (20-25). Belteleradiocompany applied for the contest Junior Eurovision 2009, but that time the EBU voted for Ukraine. Belteleradiocompany is the sole member of the European Broadcasting Union in Belarus entitled to broadcast all events held under its aegis.
